MacOnMacs: Tracking Your Time For Free
I'll have to do a short post today, but that doesn't mean that I can't share some quick and useful Mac insights ;-) .
Being a freelance web and management consultant, I constantly need to keep track of my time across a multitude of tasks/projects. Although I have yet to delve into the vast array of paid software out there for this purpose, I have located a free and functional application that does just fine by me - Crew of the Undead's Khronos.
Khronos isn't hugely sophisticated, but that doesn't mean it isn't tremendously useful. You can keep track of any number of tasks, specify descriptions, client names, and rates for these, and see time listings by task and session. It can also calculate your billable time and charges by task, as well as being able to archive data and export it to Excel.
You may not be dazzled by the interface, and the menu bar controls could look a little nicer, but this free download (donations are happily accepted!) can give you a totally functional way to keep track of your valuable time without breaking the bank. ;-)

hey jeff great to see you hav a blog, another great source for my mac goodness :D. time management is a topic ive been seeing alot recently and ive kinda got addicted to voo2do since it was on commandN, i love how simple it is and the fact you can access it from any comp is a major bonus
totally unrelated… where did you find the Dashboard shirt that you were wearing in one of the Command N epsiodes?
Hey this is a great app, for someone like me, who tends to do freelancing jobs. I can even use this for repair jobs as well. Nice app, definitely useful.
Voo2do is a cool online management "app" for sure - glad you liked it, Jay. And, yeah, Khronos is get for us freelancers, Void (is that your REAL name? :-) ).
John: My sister, Amber, got me the T-shirt - have gotten a lot of comments on it after that commandN ep!
Thanks for this recommendation, it's one of the best and useful apps for Mac I've used. Being a freelance webdesigner as well I need to keep track of how much I spend on each project and with Kronos I'm actually getting to see how much I really spend time on each project and can therefore bill my clients more realistically plus switching between tasks is super easy. Such a simple little app that is extremely helpful. So, THANK YOU!
